With reference to the arrangements made for

the training under the Board of Trade of Marine Surveyors for

the service of this Government, I have the honour to inform

Your Lordship that application has been made by four of the

officers concerned, viz.,

Crown Agents' letter No.311 M/H.Kong

454 of 23rd August, 1929.

Crown Agents' letter No.501 K/453 of

7th November, 1929.

Crown Agents' letter No.353 M/H.Kong

452 of 16th September, 1929.

Crown Agents' letter No.595 M/457 of

19th December, 1929.

to count the period of their training as full

increments and pension.

2.

In support of their claim it is pointed out,-

(i) That other officers such as Messrs. N. Garland, E. L.

Jones and K. C. Hamilton were recruited to the

Hong Kong service at the same time as themselves without the necessary training which will have to be obtained later by means of study leave counting

as service.

(ii) That another officer, Mr. B. H. Church was definitely

appointed in England and proceeded direct to his
